How to Stand out in the Crowd

Posted by Rob Mon, 05 Mar 2007 18:29:54 GMT

I recently read an article that in January 2007 there were 3,141,800 unduplicated online advertised vacancies, according to The Conference Board Help-Wanted OnLine Data Series released January 31st, 2007, which measures more than 1,200 major Internet job boards and smaller niche and regional job boards.

What that means to employers is that the labor market is very tight, more and more employers are posting online. To make your positions stand out in the crowd make sure you have a detail job description with information on your company and the job. Also look to new mediums to draw extra eyes to your jobs.

More about that coming soon!

Do you have a 5 minute "Sales Pitch" about yourself?

Posted by Rob Tue, 10 Oct 2006 17:48:09 GMT

I just read an interesting article about preparing for an interview. Be sure to read carefully the requirements of a position you are interviewing for. Make sure you can answer why you are qualified and have each skill or experience listed. Make sure if asked during the interview you can talk for 5 minutes or so about your background and why you would be a good fit for the position. Call it a 5 minute “sales pitch” about your self and experience. It will go a long way in impressing the employer that you are interested in their position and you took the time to do be prepared for the interview.

Can recruiters find your darkest secrets online?

Posted by Rob Thu, 21 Sep 2006 21:02:12 GMT

With a resource like the Internet, there are virtually zero secrets when it comes to your background. Today’s recruiters are surfing the Internet to investigating your blogs, public photo albums (you know the one where you’re mooning your buddies at a Super Bowl party) and any other public information you may have on the net. Each piece of negative information they find is another reason to decline your chance at an interview.

Having said that, one way to get an employer to notice a positive Internet presence is to have a personal web page or blog page that promotes your success and acheivements. Include work experiences and projects that you’re particularly proud of.

Advisory Alliance Launches Employment Survey!

Posted by Rob Thu, 14 Sep 2006 18:44:06 GMT

The Advisory Alliance of Savannah has launched an online survey that will help employers better understand employee point of views. What makes an employee want to stay with a particular company? For that matter, what makes them want to leave an employer? These seem to be questions asked more and more each year.

The Advisory Alliance survey has been featured in the Savannah Morning News, www.savananhnow.com, and in The Business Report, www.savannahbusiness.com. David Harper, Principal Member of The Advisory Alliance said, “We launched the survey to address what’s increasingly an important issue for employers: how do we keep our best employees.”

If you are interested in taking this survey you can find it at www.questionpro.com. The survey is completely confidential, so don’t worry about your boss finding out exactly how you feel about him or her. The survey will remain online until the end of September, after which the results will be made available to the public.

Savannahjobs.com has seen a staggering increase in web traffic in the past three months. In June, the number of visitors increased by over 300 new visitors, which we were thrilled to see. In July we gained an additional 1200 visitors. When I saw these numbers, I was flabbergasted. Then in August we gained 2341 more monthly visitors. So it’s safe to say that Savannahjobs.com’s exposure online is beefing up on popularity.

Search Engines Aren't All The Same!

Posted by Rob Fri, 21 Jul 2006 18:40:00 GMT

Jux 2 is a meta search engine that takes the leading search engines, like Google and Yahoo, and searches them at the same time, providing the user to view the best results of each site. Jux 2 isn’t the first site to do this, Dogpile.com has had a similar website for years, but one thing different about Jux 2 is that it tells you just how far down the list your results are on each search engine.

You might say, “What good is that?”. Well, online businesses that are interested in website traffic, can see where they are in reference to other websites of similar model. Which is great for keeping a close eye on the competition.

If you’re a fan of multitasking, try searching the web with a MetaSearch Engine like Jux 2 or Dogpile, you’ll be pleasantly surprised.

How Long Will You Be With Your Current Employer?

Posted by Rob Wed, 19 Jul 2006 19:02:00 GMT

In a recent article, I read that 35 year olds entering the job market will have already worked for 8 to 12 employers. I find that astonishing. At the age of 26, I’ve only worked for 2 different employers and the thought of having to pick up and move 6 more times in 9 years makes me tired. So what’s causing all this uprooting and disloyalty among young employees?

The answer is….........HEALTHCARE! Employers are finding that healthcare cost are rising and showing no signs of slowing down. Some Fortune 500 companies are raising co pays and even eliminating healthcare coverage from company benefits all together. Our economy is going through a dramatic change and until the business moguls and healthcare providers of the world join forces to solve this little problem, individuals will have to fend for themselves, leap frogging from one job to another.

Savannahjobs Is Getting Vocal!

Posted by Rob Thu, 13 Jul 2006 17:48:00 GMT

Normally I would ask a jobseeker if they had “seen” the website recently, but after today I can ask someone if they have “heard” the website. That’s right! Savannahjobs.com has added voice clips to its websites.

The clips are used in a number of ways. For example, on the homepage there is now a brief introduction to the site and an explaination of our services. In the future we hope to offer this option to our employers, as a way to vocally describe an open position and qualifications needed.

All of this was made possible by using the services provided by Evoca.com. Drop by Evoca.com and see how they can improve your business through voice.
